Mark Piotrowski Has Spent His Career Solving Problems
Mark Piotrowski was raised in Stickney, Illinois, just outside Chicago, in a working-class family where discipline, responsibility, and work ethic were expected.
His father was an hourly General Motors worker who also served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Stationed in Egypt as a mechanic, he was reassigned when commanders learned he could speak Polish, assisting British forces working with Polish troops in the Allied air campaign. After the war, he took a job at GM and, despite never attending college, worked his way up from the shop floor to become a process engineer — proof that skill, discipline, and persistence can open doors.
Growing up around that example shaped Mark in very practical ways. He can still remember being five or six years old, standing beside his dad, handing him tools while dad “fixed stuff.” Those moments sparked something.
Mark discovered early that he loved the puzzle of it all — the game, the challenge, the figuring it out. He wasn’t just interested in how machines worked, but in how systems worked — how problems could be identified, broken down, and solved. Watching his father move from hourly labor into engineering taught him something simple: if you were willing to work and willing to learn, you could solve bigger problems.
Mark earned a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from Marquette University and later completed his MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan–Flint. In 1984, he moved to Michigan and began his career at Saginaw Steering Gear, which later became Delphi and then Nexteer Automotive.

Over a 39-year career, Mark worked as a problem-solving engineer, traveling to facilities across the country to diagnose and fix manufacturing failures. His job was straightforward: solve problems others couldn’t solve.

Whether resolving production breakdowns, improving efficiency, or helping operations succeed under tight budgets, Mark developed a reputation for practical thinking, discipline, and results.
Today, Mark continues to work as a project manager in the engineering field, helping Michigan manufacturing remain competitive.
A Commitment to Family and Community
Mark and his wife Deb have been married for 36 years. They met while both working at Saginaw Steering Gear and built their lives here in Mid-Michigan.
They have one daughter, Taylor, who grew up in the community Mark and Deb proudly call home.
Mark is actively involved in his church and previously served on the Pastoral Council. He volunteers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, helping build beds for children and families in need.
He believes in giving back to the community that has given so much to him and his family.
Public Service and Leadership

In 2022, Mark was elected Saginaw County Commissioner.
He ran for office because he saw a disconnect between government decisions and the realities faced by working families and taxpayers.
As Commissioner, Mark has:
-
Voted against tax increases
-
Advocated for fiscal responsibility
-
Asked tough questions to ensure accountability
-
Focused on protecting taxpayers and improving government efficiency
He brings a practical, disciplined approach shaped by decades of real-world experience.
